Player Biography
Born in Moses Lake, Washington where he starred in both baseball and football, Ryan Doumit was selected in the 2nd round of the 1999 Amateur Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. With the ability to play multiple positions in the field, Doumit's versatility allows the Pirates to consistently benefit from his bat in the lineup.
2008 proved to be Doumit's most productive season to date, compiling a .318 average to go along with 15 home runs and 69 RBIs. A fixture in Pittsburgh both on and off the field, Doumit was rewarded with a long term contract prior to the 2009 campaign.

I remember when I made my Major League debut. Not only did Paul fly to Pittsburgh on the day of the Amateur Draft to see me play, but he also flew my parents out from Washington, as well. You don't forget things like that.
