Player Biography


Josh Johnson joined the Marlins franchise in 2002 after being selected in the 4th round of the Amateur Draft. After moving quickly through the Minor Leagues, Josh made his Major League debut in September of 2005. In 2006, Josh was runner-up in the Rookie of the Year voting after compiling a 12-7 record with a 3.10 ERA.


2009 proved that Josh Johnson belonged  in the elite class of Major League hurlers. By season's end, Josh had compiled a 15-5 record to go along with 191 strikeouts. On January 14, 2010, Johnson signed a four-year extension with the Marlins worth $39 million.
It is the second richest contract in baseball history for a pitcher entering his second year of arbitration.
